Oldesouthernquiltings.com is back up and running again.

After installing new software programs, and spending many sleepless nights rebuilding the webstore,
WE ARE BACK!
To make a long store short, our webstore was hacked & destroyed in Oct 2010.
Since we do not store any financial or personal information on our customers and visitors, the hackers just destroyed our webstore since they could not get any other information.
I am glad to say that they didn't get anything from us!
We needed a face lift anyways, so I am not holding any resentment against whom ever did the hacking.

As of today we are about 75% complete in the renovation of the webstore.

Additions and Changes to OldeSouthernQuiltings.com

We are adding new products each day and moving older stock items to the
new "Clearance" page.

The Clearance page is for items that we have limited stock on hand.
Each item will have noted how many are left in stock. When the stock on
hand is gone, we will not be relisting the items for sale.
So, it is a Win-Win situation.
Make sure you visit our Clearance Page to take advantage of the special Clearance Prices.
Another new change is in our Shipping Policy
We still only ship within the Continental United States.
Our Shipping prices have changed a bit to maintain a competitiveness and also make it more cost effective for our customers.
The standard shipping costs will be added according to how many items you purchase.
1 or 2 items = $5.98 shipping
3 or more items = $6.98 shipping
So the max amount for standard shipping regardless of how many items purchased or the amount purchased will never be more than $6.98.
We are still working on getting the Free Patterns Page up, so be patient with us.
If there is a particular pattern you are looking for, just shoot me an email and if it is one that we carry, I will email you a copy for free.

With the fast and furious changes of technology in today's world, we are under going a Web Store upgrade for our store and shopping cart.

Warm Pumpkin Cobbler

This Pumpkin cobbler (or 'Dump Cake' as my mom calls it) is one of the easiest and so delicious that it is hard to eat just one piece.
Mom always had to make Two pans, one for after dinner and a second for after everyone had gone to bed.

1 (15-oz) can pureed pumpkin
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1 (12-oz) can evaporated milk
1 stick (8 tbs.) margarine or butter - melted
3 eggs (lightly beaten)
1 box yellow cake mix
1 cup granulated sugar
1 Tub Whipped topping
1/2 cup light brown sugar
4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice mix

Combine the pumpkin, milk, eggs, sugars and spice. Stir only until combined, do not whip.
Pour mixture into a greased 9 x 13 baking pan.
Sprinkle the cake mix over the top of the pumpkin mixture in the pan.
Drizzle the melted butter on top of the cake mix.
Sprinkle the nuts on top.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes.

Let cool for at least 30 minutes and serve with a generous dollop of Whipped Topping.

** This is best when served just warm, but not hot out of the oven **

Toasted Pumpkin Seeds

If you are one of the few people out there that like to make Pumpkin Pie from 'real ' pumpkins, or if you saved your seeds from your carved pumpkin, you will have plenty of seeds to make a tasty treat !
Toasted Pumpkin seeds do not take much effort or ingredients and are a really good & heathly snack.

First you need to wash your seeds really well to get all the pumpkin fibers off of them.
Next you will need to soak the seed for at least for 2-3 hours in a salt water brine of 1/4 cup salt to a gallon of water.
After they have soaked then drain them and spread them on a towel either overninght or at least for 8 hours (they need to be good and dry).
Now comes the fun part of seasoning the seeds to your taste buds!
Spread the seeds out on an oven safe pan that has sides on it. (like a jelly roll pan)
Drizzle a small amount of oil over them to coat all seeds well.
(I like to use olive oil as it adds a bit of flavor to the seeds, or even a garlic oil would be great!)

The seasonings:
For those that can handle 'salt' use any or all of the following:
*Lowrey's Seasoning Salt
*Garlic Powder
*Paprika
*Tabassco sause
*Cayanne
For those of use that need to limit our salt intake:
*Mrs. Dash (original blend)
*Garlic Powder
*Paprika
*Tabassco Sause
*Cayanne
Sprinkle the different seasonings of your choosing over the seeds and stir well to make sure all the seeds are coated well with the oil and seasonings.

Time to Cook :
Pre-heat your oven or toaster oven to 250~ , cook the seeds for 20-30 minutes and stirring them every 8-10 minutes. The seeds wil change color a bit at this point.
After 30 minutes turn the oven up to 350~ and cook for another 20 minutes stirring the seeds every 8-10 minutes still until the seeds turn a nice toasted brown.
(To test for done-ness : Take out a couple seeds and let cool, they should be crunchy, if still chewy let them cook for another 5 minutes and test again)
Once the seeds are done, remove the seeds to a towel to rub the seasoning off or you can toss in a colender to remove all the excess seasoning.

Well, there you have it!
And to think you didn't even have to crack a shell to get these wonderfully tasty seeds.

New Varieties of Clover Yo-Yo Products

I am happy to announce that we have added the

Clover "Quic k" Yo-Yo Makers to our notions line.
We will have all 12 different shapes and sizes .
I am looking forward to getting a chance to try them out for myself

and maybe create a few patterns to share with everyone.

In the meantime, I have added a link to the "Clover" website that has 2 nice patterns that can be downloaded for free.

One pattern is for a 'Wine Carrier"
It can also be used for the large (1.5 liter) water bottles for those of us that don't imbibe in wine.
